Welcome to BBCN!
From coast to coast, many neighborhoods are responding to the crises of homelessness and lack of affordable housing by saying “Not in My Back Yard” (NIMBY) and “Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anyone” (BANANA).This website presents an alternate view—that every community must step forward and welcome housing and community services programs, both as a matter of conscience and because the law requires it.
In the following pages, you will find comprehensive resources, collected from communities and researchers around the country, on managing local opposition to affordable housing and services. We’ve also identified experts who may be able to help you reason through your particular struggles.
We invite you to take advantage of this network, to contribute your own resources and ideas, and to learn from one another.
